This week’s edition of Showdown features two celebrated Yoruba movie actresses, Bukky Wright and Fathia Balogun, who share a couple of similarities. They are both astonishing beauties, multi-talented and are among the most successful Nollywood divas. While Bukky is a film director, producer and entrepreneur, Fathia is a multi-lingual movie director and business woman. In fact, fans have been locked in fierce debates over who is the more successful of the pair. However, today, the pair go head-to-head on showdown as Nigerians determine who is the better role interpreter between them.
BUKKY WRIGHT:
Born Oluwabukola Sekinat Ajoke, star actress, Bukky Wright has been described as ageless. An Economist by profession, she has featured in numerous Yoruba flicks. The Chivita ambassador is also an entrepreneur and runs a beauty Spa, Bwright Charisma in Lagos. Her movie credits include Koseleri LayeHabibatAyo Lo Jasi and Oko Nene among others. In 2011, she won the Best Nollywood Actress of The Year award, courtesy, Great Women Post Independence Lecture & Awards in Lagos.
She was the producer of the classical movie, Omolara Johnson, and featured in numerous other movies.
FATHIA BALOGUN:
Not many people are aware that multi-lingual and popular Yoruba actress cum movie director, Fathia Balogun, is Urhobo. She is an indigene of Oghara, Delta State. Formerly married to star actor, Saheed Balogun, the Kwara State Polytechnic graduate has featured in many Yoruba and English movies. Her role interpretation skills in Yemoja, where she played the goddess of the river was outstanding and earned her the nickname, Yemoja. She has won several awards including the Best Actress in a Leading Role 2014 courtesy, the Yoruba Movie Academy Awards (YMAA).
…And the people’s verdict:
Fathia is an amazon – Sodje Boyejo, businessman
Fathia Balogun is so good in role interpretation that you are easily moved to tears watching her interpret her roles. I think the only person that can compare to her in interpreting emotional roles is Nkiru Sylvanus; Fathia is a well rounded actress; an amazon.
It’s Bukky Wright – Sade Adefuye, teacher
Bukky Wright is a wonderful actress and a delight to watch. In fact, in spite of all that people gossip about her, she is my number one role model. She is a perfect role interpreter whose brings her roles to life; simply put, she is better than Fathia.
I prefer Bukky Wright Bamiloye Edith, accountant
If you watched Omolara Johnson, you wouldn’t ask who the better actress is between Bukky and Fathia. Bucky is definitely the better role interpreter. She is prettier and also more versatile. Fathia is also charming and talented but when it comes to comparing the two, I’ll give it to Bukky.
Give it to Fathia Balogun Agbabiaka Ephraim, artist
As for me, Fathia has a comfortable edge over Bukky. After watching her in Yemoja, I doffed my cap for her. She is perfect in role interpretation, beauty and carriage. How could people ever compare Bukky to Fathia?
I’ll go for Fathia – Engineer Emma Okwuchi
The first thing that strikes one about Fathia Balogun is her astonishing beauty. She seems to be looking younger every day. I have not seen much of the movies done by both actresses but my assessment of the few that I have seen is that apart from being prettier, Fathia is also better than Bukky in terms of role interpretation.
It’s Bukky – Bukky Omoleye, undergraduate
The fact that Bukky is my name sake is enough to swing my vote her way. Aside that, she is a talented actress, a goal getter and a successful entrepreneur.
I adore Fathia Taiwo Ayeni, businessman
Fathia is an adorable woman. In fact, I adore her beauty and charisma. Professionally, I find her a better actress and better role interpreter than Bukky. But both of them are big names in the Yoruba film industry. I prefer her acting to Bukky’s.
They are both awesome! Isaac Ukoh, civil servant
My take is that they belong to the same class. They are irresistibly charming, curvy and have brains. And above all, they have invested the proceeds of their hard work wisely. I simply cannot place any one above the other.
Fathia is Better Bamiloye Edith, undergraduate
Fathia Balogun is the better role interpreter and she is also better than Bukky in every other department you could think of. She is a shining star and the pride of Nigerian women.
Bukky is better Titi Adekoya, Stylist
If you are talking about role interpretation, Bukky Wright is better. But when it comes to physical beauty, I think Fathia should carry the day. But since your question is about the former subject matter, I give it to Bukky.
Leave them alone Biodun Ogunkoye, undergraduate
Why don’t you people leave our celebrities alone? You may think that you are entertaining people but what about the rivalry you are creating in the entertainment industry with your weekly Showdown? You can see that even the title, Showdown, is suspicious. Please, you are igniting fire in their already tensed camps, please desist!
Fathia, Bukky have not impressed me Frank Odoemenam, importer
I will answer your question from a different perspective. Both Fathia and Bukky are pretty by all standards; but are they pretty in marital life? Yes they are very successful in life but do they qualify as successful wives? Why did you people ignore the more important part to dwell on role interpretation? If you are perfect in interpreting make-belief roles and fail woefully in interpreting marital roles in the home front, what do you call that? I leave the answer to you and your organisation.
They are all living fake lives Ade Orokoya, civil servant
Most of our artistes, especially the actresses, usually live fake lives. When you watch them in movies you get endeared to them. But when you are opportune to x-ray their lifestyles, it is something else. The two actresses you are featuring this week look impeccable on the screen but beyond that it is a different story. I detest their fake personalities and wouldn’t vote for any of them.
