An university student said she giving her girlfriend a ‘light kiss’ when she was approached by a Sainsbury’s security guard who allegedly asked her to stop what she was doing and leave the Brighton supermarket.
While the supermarket giant has apologised personally to the Sussex university student, it denies that the lesbian couple were asked to leave the store.
Annabelle Paige, 22, told the Times that the security guard asked them to: ‘either leave and take it outside or continue your shop without being affectionate as it was making other customers uncomfortable.’
A fellow customer had allegedly complained about the couple describing their actions as ‘disgusting’ a complaint that ‘really resonated and shook’ Ms Paige.
Spokesperson for Sainsbury’s told ITV : ‘This should never have happened – it is clear that Miss Paige and her partner were not behaving inappropriately and we are very sorry that they were treated in this way.
‘We have called Miss Paige to apologise and will be making a donation to a charity of her choice.’
